A quick update on my trek through this year's Oscar nominees! Since I originally posted, I've seen Philomena and 12 Years a Slave. I really enjoyed Philomena. Judy was marvelous in her portrayal of a mother in search of the son she unwillingly gave up. There were lots of tears in this movie for me! 12 Years a Slave was meh for me. There wasn't enough character building so I wasn't able to connect with anyone in the movie and the music, which is so often used to build on the moment and draw you in was either absent or dissonant to the scene it was distracting.
