Born and raised in Southern Minnesota, I've been a avid reader most of my life. I recall checking out every Choose Your Own Adventure book in the Easton Library in my younger days. And thanks to some wonderful teachers who read aloud to my elementary classes, I became a of life long fan of Ramona,
Laura Ingalls Wilder and Karana. I also discovered how to travel through the Wardrobe with Susan, Peter, Lucy and Edmund.

When I transferred from the safe haven of my small Catholic Elementary school, to one of two large high schools in seventh grade books became my haven--my friends. I recall trying to read The Clan of the Cave Bear and The Tale of Two Cities. I loved V.C. Andrews. The Cutler series had just come out and I could draw parallels between Dawn's struggle to fit into a new world and a new place that was familiar, but not. I discovered Avi and became a fan of The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. Next to Karana, she was probably the strongest, most determined female lead I'd ever been exposed to. I still recommend The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle to my friends, especially those with young daughters, because I still remember how I felt when Charlotte made her final decision at the end of the book and how liberating it was think that maybe someday I would have the freedom to make such a choice. By the end of high school, I had helped Meg, Calvin and Charles Murray rescue their father and discovered the secrets of the Tesseract.

Thanks to some very strong English teachers throughout high school (thank you Ms. Allevan, Ms. Vondrachek and Ms. Symond (ne' Martin)), I went to college and became an English Literature major. And since I was busy with classes and boys, I fell off the reading bandwagon. After college, I slowly picked up pace again and then a couple years ago, in an effort to save a little cash, my husband and I dropped cable and in my free time, when I'm not out taking pictures or riding my horse, I picked up my pace again. In 2011 and 2012, I clocked in at reading close to, if not, over 20,000 pages each year.

I look forward to sharing my love of books and perhaps the occasional odd movie review with you. There will probably be some book humor, author quotes and maybe a bit of my photography showing up as well. If you have question or comment, I can be reached at secondrunreviews at gmail dot com.
